Summary          Underwater technology team

   University of Málaga, Spain

Recent technological advances have ignited the interest in deploying wireless communications networks to transmit information through seas and lakes, without all the wired communications systems drawbacks. Such systems have applications in marine biology, oil extraction industry and military electronics. Physical nature of water as a wave propagation medium allows us to conclude that acoustic communication represents the most attractive option for such communication systems. However, electromagnetic waves have also been proposed for high speed underwater wireless transmission.

The Underwater technology team is formed by eight researchers of the University of Málaga, Spain. Prof. Unai Fernández Plazaola (unai@ic.uma.es) is leadering the research of the group in the following (but not limited to) areas:

· Characterization, measurement and modeling of underwater wireless channels (acoustic or electromagnetic channels).
· Underwater electronics.
· Signal processing of underwater signals and images.
· Marine sensor networks.
